C. Bruce Chandler Honored by Board

C. BRUCE CHANDLER HONORED BY LUNENBURG HEALTH SERVICE, INC. FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE

On July 20, 2009, the Lunenburg Health Service, Inc. Board of Directors formally acknowledged its indebtedness to C. Bruce Chandler for over a quarter century of service to LHS, and through LHS, to the citizens of Lunenburg County. Chandler was presented with a plaque acknowledging that his service “has truly made a difference in the lives of many of our citizens.”

Following in the footsteps of his father, Aubrey B. Chandler, who served LHS for a quarter century and was the first chairman of the board’s finance committee, Chandler served as LHS president for 14 years. During his tenure, he provided active, enthusiastic leadership and made many lasting contributions. Observing recent changes in the economy, including escalating costs, Chandler recognized the need for LHS to seek additional avenues of support to supplement the income derived from the original trust established by Robert Miles Williams in 1947. Determined to take steps to insure the

ongoing mission of LHS, Chandler led the board in a vigorous project to raise awareness of the organization and its mission and to raise funds to insure that those in need in our county will continue to receive vital services at no cost.

Louise Cheatham Chandler, Chandler’s wife of 60 years, served as Secretary of the Lunenburg Health Service, Inc. from 1985 to 1994. Since her retirement, she has often filled in when the current secretary was on vacation or ill.
